Medical Database - Equipment
Medical KitMEDKITS
Medical personnel on Away missions or other assignments away from sickbay facilities are frequently issued any of a variety of medikits.  These portable equipment packages typically include a medical tricorder, field hypospray, respirator, defib module, sample kit and a selection of sterile bandages and drugs for field use. Plasticene splints and skin graft replacements also round out the kits.

Standard drugs include water purification tablets, trioxide respiratory stimulant, dimedalyne pain suppressant, elsendatrine stimulant and anti-radiation tablets.

Medical TricorderMEDICAL TRICORDER
The Medical Tricorder (MT) consists of a standard tricorder with a specialised medical perhipheral (MP) device.  The MP in conjunction with the tricorder, with both active and passive scans can provice detailed diagnostic readings of total body mechanical processes, organ system function, disease organism infiltration and body electromagnetic conditions.  Combined readings can synthesize images and numerical readouts to aid sickbay personnel in identifying biological antagonists and determining courses of treatment. Blood and tissue samples can also be tested via receptacles.

In the field, the tricorder can access an updatable file of known medical conditions for most humanoid types and many of DNA based non-humanoids.  When operating onboard ship, the tricorder can draw upon the entire medical database of the USS Galaxy.

Hypo and VialsHYPOSPRAY
Subcutaneous and intravenous administration of many types of medication is accomplished with the hypospray.  This device employs ultasonic waves plus a pinpoint high-pressure low volume microscopic aero- suspension stream, which permits low-viscosity medication to be administered through the epidermis without mechanical penetration.  Certain types of medications can be formulated for a somewhat wider spray pattern, resulting in lesser penetration into the epidermis, but yielding a higher rate of absorption due to the greater skin area exposed to the drug. Upto 200 cc's of chemical agent can be inserted into the bloodstream in less then 2.5 seconds.

Standard hyposprays are designed to accept a standard medication vial, which can be changed as required.  Field hyposprays are normally loaded with an inert saline solution that serves as a vehicle fluid for any of five user-selectable concentrated emergency medication ampules.

NEURAL STIMULATOR
This device is used in cases of extreme injury or illness when the physician hopes to improve vital signs through  neural stimulation. The device delivers a phased voltage beam directly into the nerve endings in the brain cortex. Phased transducers on either side of the main lobes oscillate several micro volts of direct current stimulation per second.

DIAGNOSTIC BIO-BED
The diagnostic bed is a multi-function patient analysis and life-support system composed of three elements. Wove into the compression cushions lining the length of the bed is an enhanced sensor web that provides continuous data on vital signs. The folding support platform normally positioned over the patient's torso holds a standard sterilization field, dispensary systems for intravenous injections, solution preparations, a cardiovascular stimulator and an auto-respiratory stimulator. An expanded wall panel display above the patient's head provides continuous readouts of vital life signs, with an alarm system that is activated when readings fall below certain configurable thresholds. The wall display can also provide a three-dimensional holographic display of the patient for use during medical consultations.
